Review: The Impossible Whopper

Review: The Impossible Whopper

I already know people are going to judge. “IT’S NOT REAL MEAT!” “IT WON’T TASTE LIKE THE ORIGINAL WHOPPER!” “HAVEN’T YOU HEARD THE BACKLASH RECENTLY?” Woo, woo, woo and yadda, yadda, yadda! I stopped caring about other’s criticism years ago, and especially now that I have a brand new stomach. I have a million and one apps on my phone and iPad. The main reason is to get a deal which I am all about. One of those apps is the Burger King app. I’m not a huge hamburger fan, especially fast food, but I did like to enjoy a Burger King Whopper or Whopper Jr every now and then. My thought before surgery and even right after surgery was that I would never be able to enjoy a Whopper again. I was wrong in many ways. Now…I don’t know when the last time was that I actually had a Whopper or Whopper Jr pre-surgery, but one day after my surgery; probably around a year out, I was feeling myself. I ordered a Whopper Jr w/cheese, no onion. I got home, took the bottom half of the bun off and took the first bite. It was sooooo good, but after 2 more bites, I was so full and felt like I was about to throw up. I knew that I most likely wasn’t going to be able to finish the Whopper Jr, but I truly didn’t think it would make me feel the way that it did. After that experience, I probably didn’t eat red meat for months. Then I started seeing these commercials for “meatless” hamburgers. Being the skeptic that I am of course I gave it a huge side-eye and just knew it was going to taste like ass and have the consistency of rubber. The latest meatless fast-food burger to hit the market is the Impossible Whopper at Burger King by Impossible Meats. I still wasn’t impressed but then I started hearing people say that it was actually pretty good. After about another week of hearing positive things about it, I became intrigued. I went to my Burger King app to see if there were any specials for the Impossible Whopper. The first one on the list of specials was, “Buy one Impossible Whopper, get one Whopper for a Dollar.” I decided to buy the Impossible Whopper for myself and get the other Whopper for my grandmother. If I didn’t like it, I still got a Whopper for $1.00 🤷🏽‍♀️. I got home, cut the Impossible Whopper w/cheese, no onion in half. I took the first bite not knowing what to expect and I was actually surprised. It has the consistency of a hamburger and the Burger King signature flame-broiled taste. Of course, you can tell a difference, but seriously not much. I ate the entire half without feeling like I just took in a burger with the magnitude of a Whopper. I gave my grandmother some of my other half, and she even liked it; it’s hard to please her when it comes to food. I tried it a second time over the past week and I still enjoyed it. I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t just being greedy last time. That happened to not be the case and it is actually good. Of course, it’s not for everyone. Over the past 2 years, I have eaten plenty of things that I never thought I would have. So a meatless Whopper is absolutely nothing. If you’re interested in it, I would suggest trying it. It’s definitely worth it!
