We are exhausted! Black people are exhausted!
As strong as we are as black people; even the strongest have their limit. How much more pain and heartache can a group of people take? For those black folks that feel this doesn’t affect me…wake the hell up. This is an attack on all of us. For some reason in 2020 racism has openly reared its ugly head. All it took was an idiot who’s occupying 1600 Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, D.C. to become a voice and leader for the racist at heart. That was all they needed was an okay and go ahead to know they can say, do and treat us however they want. we know it stems from fear, and fear is what can make people do the most extreme things. From politics to law enforcement to even everyday people walking amongst us, they have a distorted sense of privilege (that many fail to admit even though they know that they have it) to fell that they can monitor our each and every move. Now this isn’t anything new, but it’s new to the public.
We just can’t catch a break. And we’re supposed to just take it. We’re supposed to just deal with it. We can’t complain. We can’t build each other up. Nothing! What are we complaining about? We should just be grateful that we were brought here and are allowed to walk amongst the white people. That’s not only how we feel, but we actually hear it being said. Sometimes it’s not as direct, but yes…sometimes it is just that direct. Imagine living every day of your life not knowing if today is that day that you will encounter someone who will put your life in danger just because they have a sense of entitlement over you. They know that all they have to do is say two words; “they’re black” and it could be a wrap for us. Imagine having to worry about the children in your life because they aren’t first looked at as a child, but are seen as black first…and that’s it. We have to be raised by a different set of rules when venturing out into the real world than white people are. Even when we are the victims, we are still put on trial.
I can guarantee you that none of these racist white people can tell you one single issue they really have with black people. They can’t tell you one single thing a black person has done to them except for existing. It’s truly pathetic. As I have mentioned before, I am not entertaining anyone else with those views. I will just let my actions and activism speak for themselves. However, I am human and I do have my breaking point. With so much going on, it does depress you and it’s even worse when you are already struggling with mental illness. So how do we cope? Where do we go from here? For one, we need to stick together. Can we at least start right there? Black people are the most divided race mainly because of our history and what has been engraved in our heads. We have been conditioned to look down on each other. To try and be better than the next one. This needs to stop. I say it all of the time…we have enough people against us, for us to be against us.
We get bullshit from all over and we are tired…black people are exhausted. To our allies…be just that. We don’t need billboards, censored TV shows and movies, we don’t need magazine covers; what we need is for you to use your privilege for good. You have it, please use it. In the words of Senator Cory Booker, “Your silence is complicity!” You can protest, post on social media, talk to your white friends and family; speak out against racism you see and hear. Don’t just speak on it just to me and those that look like me…speak on it to them. I know it exist and I have heard everything negative, degrading and evil said about black people. Tell them it’s wrong. Educate them because they won’t listen to us. Even if you can help change one person; that’s one more person who will be more understanding to our plight. But know in the end your black friends are exhausted.
