Starbucks Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte Review

Dear Starbucks,

This ain’t it sis and it for sure wasn’t given what it was supposed to have gave…not one bit. Now, I’m not big on sweets, I never have been. I was the kid who didn’t eat the cake and ice cream at their own birthday party. Well, I’m sure that was just me. Anyway, when I do get a sweet tooth, I’m pretty basic…sugar in my coffee, maybe a piece of apple pie and sweet potato pie around the holidays, and yes…I love just plain sugar cookies. Give me a hot sugar cookie right out of the oven and I am so good. When I saw that Starbucks was introducing a sugar cookie-inspired drink with their holiday line-up; I was nervous yet intrigued. So of course the first day they had their holiday drinks out, I was there immediately after work. I should’ve just stuck with my favorite The Caramel Brulee Latte.

I’ve always been a Starbucks girl until recently. And recently, I mean just after my surgery this past May. Before May, I seriously was at Starbucks 3-4 times a week…if not more. Since May, I have pretty much been living on Coffee and Ice Water; listen…I am so content with it. But now, my choice of coffee is just with creamer and a little sugar. I also can’t take it as strong as I used to. That’s probably another reason why I really can’t do Starbucks because even their light roasts are strong as hell. My taste buds have just completely changed…again. So I really don’t like to try new things right now, but with this drink, I absolutely had to.

So onto the review…Starbucks…may I ask this question first? How in the hell do you mess up sugar cookie flavored anything? Let’s just start right there! I had the hot latte so I can’t imagine how horrible the iced latte version would be. Yuck! It tasted just like a burnt cookie. I was not impressed at all. It wasn’t that sweet, which is fine with me. So I thought maybe I would add just a little bit of sugar. No, didn’t help. Then I decided to add a spot a creamer to it. Nope…that wasn’t the move either. So the next question that I have for you all over there at Starbucks is…Where in the hell was the sugar cookie flavoring? There was no trace of it at all. No seriously, where was it? That little topping sprinkled on top, no flavor either. I just can’t get over that it was giving me burnt cookie tease with a slight hint of coffee flavored-latte. I’m not sure if coffee favored-latte is a real thing, but that’s all I could think of when it came to the flavor. Now, some of you may be wondering if I am over-exaggerating. Well…to answer you, I thought that I was too, until a couple of days later I tried it again at another location. This time I got a tall instead of the grande that I usually get, and yes I stayed away from the iced version again. Nope…same result…nasty as hell! Now, it’s not the worse drink that I have ever had from there but come one. A damn sugar cookie!!! How??? Your quality control, taste testers, or whoever…sis! No!

I will be honest, as I mentioned above, it wasn’t the worse drink that I have had from there. Let’s discuss the failure that was the Pistachio Latte. OMG! Ewwww! I absolutely love pistachios, but they haven’t been the same to me since I had this travesty. Luckily, I used my free drink rewards for this one, but still…I hate to waste my free drink. When I decided to try it, I thought that it would give me what the Chestnut Praline Latte does. Nope! It was like I took a whole bag of pistachios and just smashed the whole bag in one swoop. That was how just one sip of the Pistachio Latte taste to me. Usually, I just stick to what I know; I’m that type of person. Hell…I didn’t try the cult favorite Pumpkin Spice Latte until just a couple of months ago. Yes…FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER and I was PISSED! I should’ve known because I’m not into pumpkin anything, but I finally wanted to see what all of the hype was about. Y’all can keep all of that nasty shit. Have at it!

I will just stick to making my own coffee at home and if I happen to be out…I’m good with Upper Cup Coffee and the fast-food chains that just sell regular coffee with cream and sugar. I’m so good with that. Starbucks…I’ll see y’all every now & then when I feel fancy, and lately, I’m just super basic.
