KFC: “Beyond Chicken” Nuggets Review
So I tried the KFC “Beyond Chicken” nuggets. I for one don’t mind plant-based meat…judge your mammy! I have eaten “Beyond Burgers” but never ate any “Beyond Chicken” products. Of course, I was intrigued when I saw the advertisement that KFC was about to start selling “Beyond Chicken.” I always keep in stock “Morning Star” brand products to get my “meat fix” on the days when my stomach isn’t feeling the best because, for the rest of my life, I will still have stomach issues and certain days I just can’t take “real meat.” So I am always on the lookout for good-tasting alternatives to fill that void. When Burger King released the “Impossible Whopper,” I was so excited to try it because even though I had never had anything under the “Impossible” brand, I missed eating a delicious whopper because my stomach couldn’t handle the beef anymore. It was so good that I had to write a review on it, and yes, I still get one every now and then.
So now we’re back down to the KFC to try their “Beyond Chicken” nuggets…and we are going twice. Yes, I had to try them twice. Now, the reason why I had to try them more than one time is that the first time, I was just getting over covid and even though I didn’t necessarily lose my sense of taste, food did taste different at the time. I did lose my sense of smell and I couldn’t even smell them to see if they were legit. My curiosity wouldn’t let me wait until I felt closer to one-hundred percent. Dang shame! So the first time, I definitely didn’t get the full flavor…if any of the nuggets. They also forgot my KFC sauce so I was already over it a bit. When I got home and opened the box, I thought…”Okay, these look promising.” They were a little larger than a regular chicken nugget so it did get a bit of a side-eye from me, but I see what they were giving. As I suspected, I couldn’t really get the full flavor of them even the Chick-Fil-A sauce I had to use. So a few days later, I went back (to a different location) and told myself…I’m determined to like these. So here is my short, honest review on KFC’s “Beyond Chicken” nuggets…
They weren’t nasty, but they weren’t great. The texture was a little different than what I am used to having with other plant-based products that I have had. Of course, after only eating a few, I was full. So a few hours later, I went back to eat the rest. I decided to put them in the air fryer and it did help. It did make eating them more tolerable. Still, there was really no flavor. And I know some of you are saying, what flavor did you expect from a plant-based product? Believe me, there is flavor in them when you get the right ones, the right brand. And I was really shocked that KFC couldn’t get their flavor right. Were they scared to season them? I have no clue, but if there’s anything that I could suggest to make these better is one…FRY HARD! Two…seasonings are your friend. A little Lawrey’s and garlic powder won’t hurt. What about those however many herbs and spices you all use? People who tend to eat “healthier” or who eat more of a plant-based diet, we still like flavor.
My suggestion is if you want meatless, plant-based chicken nuggets, or chicken patties; get yourself some Morning Star. Throw them in the Air Fryer and you are good to go. The regular or buffalo chicken doesn’t matter. You won’t be disappointed either way. Also, their Corn Dogs are so good…just an FYI. I hope if KFC wants to keep these on the menu, which I hope they do, that they go back to the drawing board and fix what needs to be fixed. Of course, it’s better to eat at home and we shouldn’t expect that much from fast food, but let’s be honest, in this society people eat fast food, and there should be more options so that these companies and continue to make money and cater to more people. It’s needed because we all know, it’s not looking too good out here these days. That’s is just my opinion on KFC’s “Beyond Chicken” nuggets. Personally, I would only get them again if they improve on what I suggested. Would I recommend them? Yes, I would definitely recommend them. There are mixed reviews from what I have seen, so hopefully, KFC or any other restaurant that may want to follow suit will take notice and work that right on out.
